Support groups have been hosted by the Tygerberg Hospital Cochlear Implant Unit for many years, although meeting in person in 2020 and 2021 was difficult. On 1 April 2022, we brought together a diverse group of teenage cochlear implant recipients at the beautiful Green Point Park. A group of 16 teenagers that attend different schools came together to celebrate their youth and network with other like-minded teens. The weather was perfect for a picnic with the sun shining warmly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed connecting and sharing their personal experiences and future aspirations. Interactive games were played, and friendships were formed. We are so proud of these teens as they have faced many obstacles growing up, and have persevered through the hardships and challenges.
