Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Chemist to join our team. This individual will work on the design and development of new analytical instruments and improvements to existing products and methods. This role is critical to the development and scale-up of chemical and reagent manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in inorganic and/or analytical chemistry, hands-on experience in chemical/reagent production, and the ability to support international teams through technical expertise and training.

The position requires up to 25% international travel to support Hanna’s global manufacturing and quality teams.

Key Responsibilities of a Senior Chemist:

  • Design, develop, and test new analytical instruments and analysis techniques, including sensors, methods, and reagents.
  • Support pilot production runs for new and updated reagents and chemical sensors.
  • Support transfer and scale-up of chemical manufacturing processes across global facilities.
  • Lead formulation development and optimization for chemical reagents and buffer solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, production) to improve reagent stability, yield, and repeatability.
  • Investigate product non-conformances; lead root cause analysis and corrective action plans.
  • Establish, maintain, and improve SOPs, work instructions, and batch records for reagent manufacturing.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter expert for international sites; provide on-site support and training as needed to sales staff, technical personnel, and customers.
  • Support regulatory compliance and safety documentation, including SDSs, hazard classifications, and labeling in line with GHS.

Qualifications& Skills required for a Senior Chemist:

  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (Ph.D. is a plus).
  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in analytical chemistry, chemical or reagent manufacturing, preferably in an ISO 9001 or GMP-regulated environment.
  • Strong understanding of analytical techniques (e.g., wet chemistry, electrochemistry, spectrophotometry).
  • Practical knowledge of chemical compatibility, stability, and shelf-life studies.
  • Comfortable working in a lab and manufacturing setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present technical data and train teams globally.
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally up to 25%.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with ERP or LIMS systems.
